Safetynet was formed on  September 25,1996 and spearheaded by Ismail Johari, B.A (Hons), M.Sc, CFE. 

 

He is a retired senior police officer in Malaysia, having held various positions in the police service including at Interpol, as Head of the criminal investigation division of the Sentul police district in Kuala Lumpur, officer at the Royal Malaysia Police research and planning division and as lecturer at the Royal Malaysian Police Academy.

 

After an illustrious police career, he became a lecturer with the Security Strategic Studies unit of the Political Science and Humanities Faculty, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (National Univeristy of Malaysia).

 

Ismail has researched and written numerous papers and articles on crime, crime prevention and security.  Ismail was the original script author for the famous 'Bukit Kepong' film which was made into a movie in 1980.  He wrote a novel on Bukit Kepong in 1999 which was published by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka. In 2000, the novel was edited into a text book which is used as a syllabus in the secondary school in Malaysia until today.

 

Ismail is a respected criminologist. He attained his first degree in Mass Communications from University Sains Malaysia  and a Masters degree in Public Policy and Management from the University of Oregon, USA.  He is also a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). 

 

Ismail is the co-founder of the Malaysian Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
